Privacy Policy

Water Polo Insights (“I”, “me”) is the data controller for the personal data described here. For anything in this policy, including any request about your data, contact waterpoloinsights@gmail.com.

There are no advertising or analytics trackers on this site, and no tracking cookies. Specifically:

• Language preference. Your chosen site language is stored in your browser’s local storage under wpi-lang. It never leaves your device and is not linked to you. Clearing your browser storage removes it.
• Server logs. The site is hosted on Vercel, and the stats dashboard reads from a separate analysis backend. Both keep standard technical logs — IP address, request time, page or endpoint requested, browser user agent — for security and to keep the service running. I do not use these logs to build profiles of visitors.
• Fonts. Typefaces are served from the site itself, so loading a page does not send a request to a third-party font provider.

If you email me, or book a session through the scheduling link in the footer, I hold what you send — name, email address, and whatever you write — for as long as needed to answer you and to keep a record of work we’ve done together. Booking is handled by a third-party scheduling provider, which processes your details under its own privacy policy. I do not add anyone to a mailing list without being asked to, and I do not sell or share contact details.

A large part of this work is analysis of water polo matches, which means handling data about identifiable players — names, positions, and event-level performance records such as shots, exclusions, and possessions. How I treat it depends on where it comes from:

• Public competition data. The public stats dashboard covers senior competitions (Champions League, World Championships, Olympics, European Championships, World Cup) and is built from officially published match records and broadcast footage. It contains performance data only — no contact details, no medical data, no personal information beyond what appears on an official team sheet.
• Club and academy work. Data collected for a club, academy, or individual client — including video, tracking, physical testing, and development records — belongs to that client. I process it on their instructions, keep it separate from the public dataset, and do not publish it or reuse it for other clients without explicit permission. Where the people in that data are minors, consent is handled through the club and the parent or guardian.
• Case studies and articles. Examples on this site are drawn from public competitions, or are anonymised or published with permission.

If you are a player and would like to know what data about you sits in my datasets, or you object to it being there, email me and I will tell you what I hold and act on the request. Public-record match data may be retained where there is a legitimate interest in keeping the historical record complete, but I will explain the position rather than ignore the request.

The tracker import tool sends the match file you choose to the analysis backend so it can be processed and added to your library. Only the file and its match metadata are transmitted; nothing else about your device is collected. Do not upload files containing personal data you do not have the right to share.

Under UK and EU GDPR I rely on: legitimate interests for keeping the site secure and for analysis of publicly recorded senior competition performance; contract for delivering coaching and analysis work you have asked for; consent where a client, player, or guardian has agreed to specific processing; and legal obligation where I have to keep records, for example for tax.

Correspondence is kept while our conversation is live and for a reasonable period afterwards. Client project data is kept for the duration of the engagement and deleted or returned on request once it ends. Public competition data is kept indefinitely as a historical dataset. Server logs are kept on the hosting providers’ standard retention schedules.

You can ask me to give you a copy of the personal data I hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict how it is used, or object to it being used — and where processing rests on consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time. If you are in the UK and think I have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk; elsewhere in the EEA, to your national supervisory authority.

This site links to Instagram, a scheduling provider, and Wikimedia Commons. Once you follow a link, that service’s own privacy policy applies. Hosting and processing may take place outside the UK and EEA; where that happens, transfers rely on the providers’ standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
